Equipment

  • 9x13-inch baking dish
  • mixing bowl
  • whisk
  • measuring cups and spoons
  • oven

Ingredients

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • 1 box instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 2 cups cold milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • optional nuts, to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Whisk together the cold milk, instant chocolate pudding mix, vanilla extract, and salt until slightly thickened. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  • Sprinkle the dry chocolate cake mix evenly over the pudding layer without stirring.
  • Drizzle the melted butter evenly over the cake mix, then sprinkle with the chocolate chips and optional nuts.
  • Bake for 30–35 minutes, until the edges are set while the center remains gooey.
  • Let the cake rest for 10–15 minutes before serving warm.

Notes

Serve warm for the best gooey texture. Optional nuts add a delicious crunchy topping. Let the cake rest for 10–15 minutes before serving so it sets slightly while remaining fudgy.
