  • mixing bowl
  • gallon-size plastic bags
  • tongs
  • paper towels

Ingredients

  • 2-3 large yellow onions sliced 1/4 inch thick
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 2-3 cups Panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 10 ounce box Kikkoman Tempura batter mix
  • 1-2 teaspoons garlic salt, divided
  • 1-2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning, divided
  • vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  • Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Pour almond milk into a large bowl.
  • Add about 1 cup of tempura batter mix to a large gallon-size bag and set aside.
  • In another gallon-size bag, combine Panko breadcrumbs, garlic salt, and Cajun seasoning. Shake well to mix.
  • Dip several onion rings into the almond milk, then transfer them to the tempura batter bag. Seal and shake until coated.
  • Dip the coated onion rings back into the almond milk for a second coating.
  • Add the onion rings to the breadcrumb bag, seal, and shake until fully coated in seasoned panko.
  • Carefully place the onion rings into the hot oil and fry on each side until golden brown and crispy.
  • Remove the onion rings and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  • Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

Use sweet yellow onions for the best flavor and texture. Fry in small batches to keep the oil temperature stable and ensure crispy results. Serve with ranch, spicy mayo, or ketchup for dipping.
